The Rome Nightlife Scene
Testaccio and San Lorenzo do different things and attract different crowds. Testaccio is the club district: the former slaughterhouse district's repurposed warehouses house Goa on Via Libetta and Akab Cave on Via di Monte Testaccio. San Lorenzo runs earlier and cheaper, with university students from La Sapienza making up most of the crowd on the Via degli Ausoni strip.
What you'll pay
Draught beer at San Lorenzo bars costs €3 to €5. Testaccio clubs charge €10 to €20 entry, typically including one drink. Cocktails at Testaccio venues run €8 to €12. A San Lorenzo evening is one of the most affordable in Rome: four drinks and no cover comes to €15 to €25. Testaccio with club entry runs €30 to €50. Prices verified April 2026.
Best nights to go
Friday in Testaccio has the best balance: Goa is busy but queues are manageable, and the crowd is more mixed than Saturday. San Lorenzo runs consistently Thursday through Saturday. Avoid Sunday in both districts: San Lorenzo bars close by midnight and Testaccio clubs do not operate on most Sundays outside summer.
