Party Hostels in Bangkok

Bangkok's nightlife is relentless, and the hostel scene keeps pace with it. Khao San Road is the obvious starting point: a strip of open-air bars, cheap Chang buckets, and live music that runs well past 3am. But the city rewards those who look further. Sukhumvit's Soi 11 pulls a mixed crowd of expats and travellers into rooftop bars and clubs that don't hit their stride until midnight. Party hostels here tend to organise their own bar nights and crawls, which means you can walk out of your dorm and straight into a group heading somewhere worthwhile. Dorms run from around 250 to 450 baht a night depending on the area and how many beds are crammed in. The Banglamphu district, just behind Khao San, is where you'll find the highest concentration of backpacker spots. It's loud, it's hot, and it's very good at keeping people here longer than they planned.

Which Area Should You Stay In?

How Bangkok's nightlife zones break down

Banglamphu / Khao San Road

This is ground zero for Bangkok backpackers, centred on Khao San Road and the quieter lanes that branch off it, like Soi Rambuttri. The area sits just north of the old royal district and is packed with guesthouses, cheap eats, and bars that spill onto the pavement every night of the week.

Best for: Budget dorms and all-night bar strips

Sukhumvit

Sukhumvit runs east from the city centre and is serviced by the BTS Skytrain, making it easy to get around without a taxi. Soi 11 and Soi Cowboy are the main nightlife draws, offering everything from craft beer bars to high-energy clubs, and the hostels here tend to sit at the slightly higher end of the budget scale.

Best for: Skytrain access and upscale bar crawls

Silom / Suriwong

Silom is Bangkok's financial district by day and one of its busiest nightlife corridors after dark, with Patpong Night Market running between Silom and Suriwong roads. The area is a short walk from the BTS Sala Daeng station and draws a more mixed crowd than Khao San, including local Thais and long-term expats.

Best for: Night markets and a more local bar crowd

Bars, clubs and live music in Bangkok

Khao San Road Bar Strip

Khao San Road, Banglamphu

The full stretch of Khao San Road turns into an open-air party from around 9pm, with bars blasting everything from reggae to Thai pop and buckets of spirits sold for under 200 baht. It gets genuinely packed on weekends, and the energy spills onto the pavement and into the surrounding sois. Go early to grab a seat, or just join the crowd standing in the road.

Soi Rambuttri

Soi Rambuttri, Banglamphu

One block parallel to Khao San, Rambuttri has a slightly more relaxed feel with fairy-lit bars and live acoustic sets most nights. Drink prices are similar but the crowd is a little older and less chaotic. It's a good warm-up spot before heading to Khao San proper.

Levels Club & Lounge

Soi 11, Sukhumvit

One of Sukhumvit's most reliably busy clubs, Levels sits on the sixth floor of the Aloft Hotel on Soi 11 and runs DJ sets covering hip-hop, house, and commercial dance. It gets going after midnight and stays loud until the early hours. Entry is usually free before midnight with a drink included.

The Club @ Khaosan

Khao San Road, Banglamphu

Right on Khao San Road, this is one of the bigger indoor clubs in the area, with a sound system that actually holds up and a dancefloor that fills fast. It plays a mix of EDM and Thai pop and draws a crowd that's roughly half tourists and half locals. Cover charge is around 200 baht and usually includes a drink.

Sing Sing Theater

Soi 45, Sukhumvit

A theatrical and slightly surreal bar-club hybrid in Sukhumvit, Sing Sing has an interior designed to look like a 1930s Shanghai opium den, with red lanterns, velvet booths, and a dancefloor that gets properly sweaty. The music leans into deep house and electronica. It's a step up in price from the Khao San spots but worth it for a night out that feels different.

ClubHouse musicTrendyLate night

Smalls

Soi 26, Sukhumvit

A tiny, dimly lit jazz and soul bar on Sukhumvit Soi 26 that has built a loyal following among expats and local musicians. Live sets most nights, no cover charge, and a genuinely good cocktail list. It's a proper late-night bar that doesn't feel like it's trying too hard.

Practical Info

🚇
Getting around Bangkok
The BTS Skytrain and MRT Metro are the quickest ways to move between neighbourhoods, with fares starting at around 16 baht. Grab (the local ride-hailing app) is reliable and usually cheaper than flagging a metered taxi. From the Khao San area, a Grab to Sukhumvit typically costs 80 to 150 baht depending on traffic.
✈️
Getting from the airport
Suvarnabhumi Airport is around 30 kilometres from central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs directly to Phaya Thai station for 45 baht and takes about 30 minutes. From there, you can connect to the BTS Skytrain or take a Grab to your hostel. Don Don Mueang Airport, used by budget carriers, is further north and a taxi or Grab is usually the most practical option, costing around 200 to 350 baht.
🍺
Drink prices and budgets
A large bottle of Chang or Leo beer from a 7-Eleven costs around 50 to 60 baht. Bar prices on Khao San Road run from about 80 to 150 baht for a bottle of beer, and a bucket of spirits and mixer is usually 150 to 200 baht. Clubs in Sukhumvit charge more, with cocktails starting around 250 baht.
🌙
Closing times and curfews
Most bars in Bangkok are legally supposed to close at 2am, though enforcement varies. Khao San Road tends to keep going later in practice, and some clubs operate until 4am or later. The city periodically tightens enforcement, so it's worth asking hostel staff about the current situation when you arrive.
💊
Safety at night
Bangkok is generally safe for travellers but drink spiking does occur in some tourist-heavy bars, particularly around Khao San and Silom. Keep an eye on your drink and don't accept drinks from strangers you've only just met. Tuk-tuks that offer to take you to clubs or gem shops for free are a well-known scam, stick to Grab or metered taxis.
🌡️
Weather and best time to visit
Bangkok is hot year-round, with temperatures rarely dropping below 25°C even at night. The coolest and driest period runs from November to February, which is peak season. The rainy season (May to October) brings afternoon downpours but also fewer tourists and lower hostel prices.
