Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg split the work in Berlin. Friedrichshain handles the accessible end: Simon-Dach-Strasse bars, Matrix at the end of the night, a crowd that skews international backpacker. Kreuzberg runs darker and more local, with the canal-side spots at Schlesisches Tor holding out longest into the morning. Berghain is in the direction of both but operates as its own planet, separate from the bar-crawl geography.

Club entry in Friedrichshain runs €12 to €16 at the venues on the standard circuit; door prices at Berghain and Tresor territory are €15 to €20 and cash-only. Best nights to go

Thursday through Saturday runs consistently. Friday draws the biggest mixed crowd; Saturday skews toward longer nights and higher door prices at the clubs. Tuesday has a following among locals and repeat visitors: smaller, quieter bars, no queue. Sunday is Berghain territory. If that is not your plan, the rest of Friedrichshain is noticeably emptier on Sundays than it is mid-week.
