The Cartagena Nightlife Scene
Cartagena's nightlife centres on the Walled City, specifically Getsemaní, the neighbourhood just outside the colonial walls that has shifted from local to traveller-facing over the last decade. Plaza de la Trinidad in Getsemaní is the outdoor gathering point from around 9pm; the narrow streets radiating from it hold the bars. Bocagrande, the hotel district to the south, has the bigger clubs but requires a taxi.
What you'll pay
Beer in Getsemaní runs COP 3,000 to 5,000 on the street and in the neighbourhood bars; Bocagrande clubs charge COP 20,000 to 40,000 entry. Aguardiente shots cost COP 2,000 to 4,000 at street-side stalls near Plaza de la Trinidad. Budget COP 50,000 to 100,000 (€10 to €22) for a Getsemaní evening including drinks. Add the club entry if you are heading to Bocagrande. Prices verified April 2026.
Best nights to go
Thursday through Saturday are the active nights in Getsemaní; the plaza fills earliest on Friday. Mid-week is quiet and the few bars that remain open do low volume. The heat is a genuine factor: December through March is peak season and significantly busier than the rainy months; expect higher prices and more tourist density.
