Old Town

The medieval heart of Dubrovnik, surrounded by 16th-century walls. Bars and clubs are tucked into narrow alleys, so you’ll stumble upon them while exploring. The main nightlife streets are Prijeko and Palmotićeva, where tables spill onto the pavement. Stay here if you want to be in the centre of everything, but expect noise until 3 AM.

Lapad

A 20-minute bus ride west of the Old Town, Lapad is where locals go to escape the tourist crowds. The waterfront promenade is lined with cocktail bars and late-night konobas (taverns). The beach at Copacabana is the main party spot in summer, with foam parties and DJ sets. Hostels here are cheaper and quieter, but you’ll need a bus or taxi to get home after midnight.

Ploče

The eastern gateway to the Old Town, Ploče is where you’ll find Banje Beach and the city’s best beach clubs. It’s a 10-minute walk from the Old Town walls, so it’s close but not as loud. The area has a few boutique hostels with sea views, and the nightlife is more upscale: think cocktails on rooftops rather than shot bars.

Daytime is for sunbathing on the rocks; after dark, it turns into a candlelit spot for cheap wine and shared bottles. Dubrovnik’s biggest club, set in a 16th-century fortress. The main room plays EDM and house, while the courtyard hosts live bands. Entry is 100 HRK (£11) with a drink included, but it jumps to 150 HRK (£17) after midnight. Crowds are a mix of tourists and locals, and it gets packed by 1 AM. Dress sharp: bouncers turn away sandals and shorts.

A tiny wine bar on Palmoticeva Street with 100+ Croatian wines by the glass. The owner, Sasha, gives free tastings if you buy a bottle, and the place fills up by 8 PM with backpackers and digital nomads. A glass of Plavac Mali costs 45 HRK (£5), and cheese platters are 80 HRK (£9). Open until 1 AM.

The most popular pub crawl in Dubrovnik, running nightly in summer. Meet at Big Onofrio’s Fountain at 9.45 PM: first bar has unlimited drinks for an hour, plus glow paint. The crawl hits two more bars before ending at Culture Club Revelin with free entry. Tickets are 150 HRK (£17) if booked online, 200 HRK (£22) at the door.

A tapas bar on Antuninska Street that turns into a standing-room-only party after 11 PM. The sangria is strong and cheap (50 HRK/£5.50 a glass), and the crowd is mostly travellers. Happy hour runs from 5–7 PM, but the real action starts when the live salsa band kicks off at 10 PM. No cover charge.

A day-to-night beach club on Banje Beach, 10 minutes’ walk from the Old Town. Sunbeds cost 200 HRK (£22) before 6 PM, but the real draw is the DJ sets that run from sunset until 4 AM. Entry is free before 11 PM, then 100 HRK (£11) with a drink included. The crowd is a mix of backpackers and yacht crews: expect house and techno.
