Party Hostels in Zadar

Zadar’s nightlife kicks off in Varoš, a maze of narrow streets just behind the Roman Forum. By 10 PM, the area is packed with locals and travellers sipping Korlat wine and craft beers at pavement tables. The hostel scene is small but sharp: most places are within a 10-minute walk of the action, so you can roll out of bed and into a bar without missing a beat.

The real draw isn’t just the drinking; it’s the mix. One night you’re in a dimly lit cellar bar with live klapa music, the next you’re on a pub crawl that hits three clubs along the waterfront. The sea is always in sight, and by midnight, the promenade steps are full of people sharing bottles of cheap local plonk under the famous Sea Organ lights.

Which Area Should You Stay In?

How Zadar's nightlife zones break down

Varoš

A tangle of stone streets behind the Roman Forum, Varoš is where Zadar’s nightlife starts. Bars spill onto pavements, and the crowd is a mix of locals and backpackers. The streets are narrow, so it feels intimate even when busy. Most places are within a 5-minute walk of each other.

Best for: Wine bars and early-night drinks

Old Town

The peninsula is the historic core, with the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun installations. At night, the promenade lights up, and street performers set up near the Forum. Bars here are pricier but worth it for the views. The main club strip is along Špire Brusine.

Best for: Waterfront clubs and sunset spots

Kolovare

A 10-minute walk south of the old town, Kolovare is where locals go to escape tourists. The beach is lined with bars and a few clubs, including Bamboo. During the day, it’s all about sunbeds and swimming; at night, it’s reggae and bonfires.

Best for: Beach parties and laid-back vibes

Practical Info

🚌
Getting around Zadar
The old town is walkable: most hostels are within 1 km of Varoš. For the beaches at Kolovare or Borik, take bus 2 or 4 from the main station. Tickets cost 15 HRK (£1.70) and take about 15 minutes. Taxis from the airport to the city centre run around 200 HRK (£23), but the airport shuttle is cheaper at 30 HRK (£3.50).
💰
Budget basics
A pint of local beer in Varoš costs 25–35 HRK (£3–4). Club entry is usually 30–50 HRK (£3.50–6), often with a free drink included. Hostel beds start at 180 HRK (£21) in dorms, but prices jump in July and August. Street food: try ćevapi or burek: sets you back about 20 HRK (£2.30).
🍻
Best time to go out
Bars fill up by 9 PM, but clubs don’t get busy until midnight. Most places close at 4 AM, except on Fridays and Saturdays when they stay open until 6 AM. The pub crawl runs every Thursday and Saturday, meeting at 9 PM outside The Garden Bar. If you’re not on the crawl, aim to arrive at clubs by 11:30 PM to avoid queues.
📅
When to visit
May and June are ideal: warm enough for beach days, but not yet packed. July and August are hot and crowded; book hostels at least a month ahead. September still has good weather and fewer tourists, with some bars offering happy-hour deals until 10 PM.
🔌
Power and Wi-Fi
Croatia uses Type C/F plugs (220V). Most hostels have free Wi-Fi, but speeds can lag in peak season. Buy a local SIM from Telemach or A1 at the airport for 50 HRK (£6): it’s cheaper than roaming and works in most coastal towns.
🚰
Tap water
Tap water is safe to drink everywhere in Zadar. Carry a reusable bottle: most hostels have refill stations, and there are public fountains around the old town. A litre of bottled water costs 10 HRK (£1.15) in shops, but you won’t need it.
