The Stockholm Nightlife Scene
Södermalm is where Stockholm's bar scene concentrates for anyone not going upmarket. The streets around Medborgarplatsen and Mariatorget hold the majority of the bars that stay open past midnight. Trädgården, the outdoor club under the Skanstull bridge, operates late spring through summer and functions as the city's best-known late venue for a younger crowd. The rest of the year the action moves indoors to Hornsgatan.
What you'll pay
Stockholm is expensive. Club entry runs 100 to 200 SEK at the door; some venues waive it before 11pm. Beer inside a club costs 80 to 100 SEK. A realistic night out, two bars and one club from 10pm, runs 500 to 800 SEK including four rounds, roughly €44 to €70. There is no way to make this cheap. The city's reputation for expensive nightlife is accurate. Prices verified April 2026.
Best nights to go
Friday in summer at Trädgården. It fills by 10pm and the queue is real by 11pm. Winter shifts the pick to Thursday: student nights run at several Södermalm bars with reduced entry and cheaper drinks, crowds are smaller, and the bars feel less transactional. Saturday is always the biggest night but also the most expensive.
