Pub Crawls in Marrakech

Marrakech's nightlife is in Gueliz and Hivernage. Those two districts are where licensed venues operate, where alcohol is served, and where the clubs and lounges actually function. The Medina, for all its evening atmosphere, is not part of this picture.

Gueliz is the French-quarter new city, 15 minutes by taxi from the Medina hostel zones. So Night Lounge, Theatro, and Kechmara concentrate the mid-range nightlife options alongside smaller cocktail bars and rooftop restaurants. Hivernage, the luxury hotel district adjacent to Gueliz, operates at a different price point: Palais Jad Mahal runs cabaret and live entertainment; Lotus Club and Montecristo attract a more formally dressed crowd with higher minimum spends. Alcohol is not available in convenience shops or outside licensed venues; the supply is entirely within Gueliz and Hivernage. Clubs open at 23:00 and do not fill until around 01:00, which is the standard North African operating rhythm. Dress code is enforced at clubs across both districts: smart casual is the minimum, with cocktail dress the expectation at Hivernage venues.

The Marrakech Nightlife Scene

Gueliz is where most travellers should start: licensed bars and mid-range clubs in the modern French quarter, 15 minutes by taxi from the Medina. Hivernage is the upscale extension with hotel district clubs and higher entry prices. Both districts require taxi transport from Medina accommodation; walking between them after dark is not recommended.

Best Night to Go

Friday and Saturday are the standard peak nights. Clubs in both districts operate a Thursday-Saturday format and are largely closed Sunday through Wednesday. Ramadan (which ran February 19 to March 21 in 2026) substantially reduces what is available: many bars close entirely during the month, and the remaining licensed venues operate at reduced hours and capacity. Post-Ramadan, the scene restores quickly. The Mawazine Festival in June draws international acts to Morocco and lifts activity across the country, though its primary venues are not in Marrakech itself.
