Bucharest's Old Town is one of the densest bar districts in Europe by surface area. Strada Lipscani and the streets around it pack more licensed venues per block than almost anywhere in the region, which makes the pub crawl format a natural fit rather than a tourist imposition.
The Old Town (Centrul Vechi) around Strada Lipscani has been Bucharest's backpacker nightlife zone since the mid-2000s, when the area was redeveloped and the bar licence density exploded. The streets between Calea Victoriei and Strada Smârdan now hold hundreds of venues within about 500 metres square. What organised crawls provide here specifically is selection and door negotiation: with this many bars, spending 20 minutes choosing a venue is easy, and the crawl solves that. Beyond the Old Town, the Floreasca area on Calea Floresca holds the city's higher-end clubs with bottle service. They are a different product for a different crowd, but worth knowing they exist for nights that extend past the Old Town circuit.
The Bucharest Nightlife Scene
Strada Lipscani and the four or five streets around it form the entire Old Town circuit: walkable, dense, and cheap. The area east of Calea Victoriei holds the more commercial bar venues; the side streets west toward Splaiul Independentei hold the smaller, quieter wine bars and locals' spots that stay open late without the volume. Floreasca, 4km north, is the upscale club district for nights that require something more structured.

Summer (June to August) adds outdoor seating that doubles the effective capacity of most bars on the strip and extends the viable social window by an hour or two either end.
