The smallest of the three Gili Islands runs the most concentrated party strip in Indonesia: a beachfront kilometre of beach clubs, fire shows, and open-air bars with no motorised vehicles on the island.
Gili Trawangan is the largest of three tiny coral islands off the north-west coast of Lombok, roughly 2km long and 1km wide. There are no motorised vehicles: transport is by horse-drawn cidomo or bicycle. The west-facing coast is where the social infrastructure concentrates — a strip of beach clubs, bars, and restaurants running from the boat landing to the northern point, with unobstructed sunset views across the Bali Strait to Gunung Agung. This strip is why people come here. Blue Marlin, Tir na Nog, and Jiggy's are the long-standing anchors; Ombak Sunset and the newer clubs further north attract a more upmarket crowd paying beach club prices.
The nightly pattern is consistent and predictable in the best sense. Sunset from around 6pm draws everyone to the west strip, fire shows start at the southern end of the strip from 7:30pm, and the beach clubs run music through until 2am or later. The party rotation across the three Gilis is worth knowing: Gili T has the main scene, Gili Air is calmer and better for longer stays, Gili Meno has almost nothing in the way of nightlife and is for honeymooners. The cidomo between islands takes 15 minutes and costs IDR 25,000–50,000. The Gili T scene does attract a wide age range but the hostel-oriented crowd concentrates around the Blue Marlin end of the strip and the hostel bars inland.

Day-by-day breakdown
Rent a snorkel set from any beach shack for IDR 50,000–80,000 (£3–£5) per day. The turtle cleaning station at the north of Gili T reliably has sea turtles from 8am. The coral between Gili T and Gili Meno has good fish coverage. A shared boat snorkelling tour covering all three islands costs IDR 150,000–200,000 (£8–£10) per person and runs from 10am. The west-side water is clearer in the morning before boat traffic builds up.
Walk to the west beach by 5:30pm to secure a sunbed for sunset. Blue Marlin charges IDR 50,000 for a sunbed that comes off your drinks bill. A Bintang beer costs IDR 40,000–60,000 (£2–£3). Fire shows run along the strip from around 7:30pm. Tir na Nog stays open until 3am and is the most reliably social bar on the island. Budget IDR 200,000–400,000 (£10–£20) for a full evening of drinks.
