Party Hostels in Bucharest

Bucharest has one of Europe's most underrated nightlife scenes, and the backpacker crowd has caught on. The Lipscani old centre is the obvious starting point: cobbled alleys packed with bars, rooftop terraces, and locals who treat a Tuesday like a Friday. Grab a beer at Caru' cu Bere or wander down Strada Covaci and you'll find somewhere worth staying until 3am without really trying. The club scene along Calea Văcărești and in the Floreasca district runs later still, with techno and house sets that go well past sunrise. Hostels here tend to be social by default. the city is compact enough that guests end up in the same bars regardless of where they're staying. Beds start cheap, the beer is cheaper, and the street art between Floreasca and Obor gives you something to look at on the walk home.

Pub Crawls in Bucharest

Organised nights out with a local guide

Bucharest Pub Crawl (Official Weekly Tour)

Weekly

Running weekly since 2016, this is Bucharest's longest-established pub crawl and has hosted over 12,000 guests. The tour visits multiple bars across the Lipscani old town, with free shots and drink deals included at each stop. It's open to anyone 18 and over and a good way to meet other travellers on your first night in the city.

Meeting point: Lipscani Old Town

Which Area Should You Stay In?

How Bucharest's nightlife zones break down

Lipscani (Old Town)

Lipscani is the old centre of Bucharest and the undisputed hub of the city's bar scene. The area runs roughly between Strada Lipscani to the north and Splaiul Independenței along the river, with hundreds of bars, restaurants, and clubs crammed into a tight grid of cobbled streets. Strada Covaci and Strada Blănari are particularly dense with options and stay busy until the small hours most nights of the week.

Best for: Nightlife, bar-hopping, central location

Floreasca

Floreasca sits in the north of the city, roughly 4km from Lipscani, and is home to some of Bucharest's smarter clubs and upscale bars around Strada Mihai Eminescu and the nearby lake. It's less chaotic than the old town and draws a slightly older, local-heavy crowd. The M2 metro line and Bolt make it easy to reach from a hostel in the centre.

Best for: Club nights and upscale bars

Calea Văcărești

A broad avenue southeast of Piața Unirii, Calea Văcărești has become one of the better areas in Bucharest for independent venues and alternative nightlife. Expirat is the anchor here, but several smaller bars and music spots have opened up around it in recent years. It's a short walk or cheap Bolt ride from most central hostels.

Best for: Alternative clubs and electronic music

Bars and Clubs in Bucharest

Where the hostel pub crawls end up, and where to go on your own

Control Club

One of Bucharest's most respected independent venues, Control sits beneath street level on Strada Constantin Mille and draws a mixed crowd of locals and travellers. It hosts live bands, indie nights, and DJ sets across two rooms, with drink prices that won't wreck your budget. Weekends get loud and packed by midnight.

Expirat

A cult favourite on Calea Văcărești, Expirat is a multi-floor club and cultural space that runs electronic, techno, and alternative nights most weekends. The outdoor terrace is a good spot earlier in the evening before the inside rooms get going. Cover charges are modest and the crowd skews young and local.

Fratelli Social Club

Fratelli is a fixture in the Floreasca district and one of the city's smarter late-night spots, pulling in a well-dressed crowd for house and commercial DJ sets. It fills up properly after 1am and stays busy until well past dawn on weekends. Bottle service is available but not required.

Grădina Urbană

An open-air bar and event space in the Floreasca area that comes into its own in summer, with regular DJ nights, food stalls, and a laid-back crowd that mixes locals and expats. It's a good option for early evening drinks before moving on somewhere louder. Craft beers and cocktails are the main draw.

Caru' cu Bere

This 19th-century beer hall on Strada Stavropoleos is a genuine Bucharest institution and worth visiting for the architecture alone, with soaring neo-Gothic interiors and stained glass that look better at 9pm with a Ursus in hand. The beer is good and the food solid, though prices are slightly higher than the surrounding Lipscani bars. Best for an early evening start before heading deeper into the old town.

Lente & Cafea

A small, relaxed bar on Strada Covaci that attracts a creative local crowd and travellers looking for something lower-key. It's known for good wine, affordable cocktails, and occasional acoustic sets. Gets genuinely busy from around 9pm on weekends despite the compact space.

Quantic Club

Quantic is one of the more established electronic music venues in Bucharest, hosting touring DJs and local selectors across two floors near the Regie student district. The sound system is serious and the nights run late. It draws a crowd that knows its music, so expect techno, minimal, and deep house rather than commercial sets.

Practical Info

✈️
Getting from the airport
Henri Coandă International Airport is about 17km north of the city centre. The 783 express bus runs directly to Piața Unirii in the old town for around 3 RON (under £1) and takes 40–60 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis cost 50–80 RON if booked through the official Fly Taxi kiosks in arrivals. avoid touts on the kerb.
🚇
Getting around the city
Bucharest's metro covers the key areas and a single ticket costs around 3 RON. The M2 line connects the airport bus terminus at Piața Victoriei down to Piața Unirii, right on the edge of Lipscani. Trams and buses fill in the gaps, and a 24-hour travel card runs around 8 RON. Bolt and Uber are both active here and very affordable for late-night trips home.
💶
Costs and currency
Romania uses the Romanian Leu (RON), not the Euro. At time of writing, roughly 5.8 RON to the pound. A pint of local Ursus or Timișoreana beer costs 10–15 RON in most bars, and a dorm bed in a party hostel runs from 60–120 RON per night. ATMs are widely available around Lipscani and most hostels can advise on the best fee-free options.
🌙
Nightlife hours
Bars in Lipscani typically open from early evening and stay busy until 2–3am. Clubs, particularly those along Calea Văcărești and in the Floreasca district, don't fill up until midnight and many run until 6am or later. Cover charges at clubs range from free before midnight to around 30–50 RON later in the night.
🗣️
Language and getting by
Romanian is the official language, but English is widely spoken by hostel staff, bar workers, and most people under 40 in the city centre. Outside Bucharest, English becomes less reliable so it's worth learning a few basics if you're continuing north into Maramureș or Bucovina. Google Translate handles Romanian well offline.
🔒
Safety basics
Bucharest is generally safe for backpackers, but Gara de Nord (the main train station) and its surrounds attract occasional scams targeting tourists. Stick to licensed taxis or app-based rides at night and keep an eye on your belongings in crowded Lipscani bars. The nightlife areas are busy and well-lit on weekends.
