Two beaches south of Patong with a slower vibe. Kata has a decent beach break for surfing in the rainy season; Karon is wider and flatter, better for sunbathing. Nightlife is limited to beachfront bars like After Beach Bar, where fire dancers perform at sunset. Hostels are family-run and a 20-minute songthaew from Patong.

Go-go bar that transitions into a nightclub after midnight. Entry is free before 11 p.m., 200 THB after. The music is commercial hip-hop and EDM; expect a mixed crowd of locals and tourists. Stick to bottled beer: cocktails are overpriced and watered down.
