Mexico's design-conscious beach town runs a beach club and jungle rave circuit on the Caribbean coast, with international DJ bookings at Papaya Playa and Zamna from November to April.
Annual. The season runs November to April; the summer is hot, humid, and less active. New Year week is the single busiest period.
Tulum Beach Road (Carretera Tulum-Boca Paila) runs 15km from the town centre south to the Sian Ka'an biosphere boundary. The beach clubs and boutique hotels line both sides: Papaya Playa Project, Gitano, Nomade, and Rosa Negra are the most internationally known. The beach is Caribbean: white sand, turquoise water, and the Maya ruins of Tulum (one of the only walled coastal Maya sites) visible from the beach club terraces at the northern end. This combination of archaeology, Caribbean beach, and internationally programmed nightlife is what makes Tulum distinct.
Zamna Tulum is the defining jungle venue: a 10-acre outdoor space in the jungle behind the beach road, with raised platforms, multiple stages, and a programme of international electronic music acts (Damian Lazarus, Lee Burridge, and similar) from November to April. Events run from 10pm to 10am: they are correct raves by structure. Tickets cost MXN 1,500-3,000 (£66-132) and must be booked in advance at zamna.mx. Papaya Playa Project runs weekly Wednesday events and New Year programming that are slightly more accessible in price (MXN 500-1,500 for most nights). The beach clubs are the daytime layer: minimum spends of MXN 200-500 for a daybed and access to pool and sea.

Day-by-day breakdown
The Tulum archaeological site opens at 8am and is most comfortable before 10am (before the tour groups arrive). Entry costs MXN 95 (approximately £4.20) for foreigners. The site overlooks the Caribbean from a 12-metre cliff: the combination of Maya temples and turquoise water below is genuinely impressive. Beach clubs along the southern stretch (below the ruins, near Papaya Playa) open from noon; minimum spend for a daybed is MXN 200-500 depending on the venue and the day.
Zamna events typically start at 10pm. The jungle venue is 3km from the main beach road by taxi (MXN 80-120 from the beach). Papaya Playa's Wednesday parties start at 8pm and run until 4am: easier for first-timers and slightly cheaper. Gitano Beach has a seated dinner service from 7pm and a DJ set from 10pm: cocktails MXN 200-350. The beach clubs along the strip are accessible without events on quiet nights; some run resident DJs until midnight.
