Dotonbori neon, Namba basement clubs, and the bars of Amerika-mura: Japan's most unpretentious city for a night out, with last trains at midnight and after-midnight clubs running until 6am.
Year-round. Busiest weekends are in spring (March–April, cherry blossom season) and autumn (October–November).
Osaka's nightlife divides cleanly into two phases: last train and after. The Osaka Metro runs until midnight, and the bars around Dotonbori, Namba, and Amerika-mura are busy from 7pm through to 11:30pm with a mixed crowd of locals, tourists, and expats. After the trains stop, a smaller, more committed crowd moves to the clubs in Namba and the Shinsaibashi area. Club Pure on Shinsaibashi-suji is one of the larger venues with a capacity of around 1,000 and regular international DJ bookings. Triangle Park in Amerika-mura is the informal outdoor gathering point before clubs.
Osaka is significantly cheaper than Tokyo for nightlife: a beer at a standing bar (tachinomi) in Dotonbori costs 400–600 JPY, and many izakayas run all-you-can-drink (nomi-hodai) deals for 90 minutes at 1,500–2,000 JPY. The Amerikamura district, a 10-minute walk west of Dotonbori, has a denser concentration of independent bars, reggae spots, and smaller clubs targeting a younger crowd. Namba Parks area and the streets south of Namba station have the main late-night cluster.

Day-by-day breakdown
Start at Dotonbori, the canal-side street with the Glico running man sign, and work west toward Amerika-mura. The tachinomi (standing bar) culture means drinks are fast and cheap: 400–600 JPY for a beer at a standing bar, no seat required. Izakayas on the side streets off Dotonbori run nomi-hodai deals from around 1,500 JPY for 90 minutes. Triangle Park in Amerika-mura is the outdoor meeting point from 9pm onwards. The area between the park and Shinsaibashi shopping street has the best concentration of independent bars. Last trains from Namba station are around midnight.
After midnight, the crowd consolidates around the clubs between Namba and Shinsaibashi. Club Pure (Shinsaibashi-suji) is the main large venue: 1,000 capacity, multiple floors, house and techno on rotation, entry 1,500–2,500 JPY with a drink. Joule and Socore Factory are smaller options with more eclectic programming. Most clubs run until 5am or 6am. The first morning trains start again around 5:30am from Namba and Shinsaibashi stations, so the timing works if you stay until the end.
