A 20-minute fast boat from Bali's Sanur beach lands you on an island with no traffic, three beach clubs, and an evening bar scene that ends at midnight and starts again at sunrise.
Year-round. Dry season (May-September) has the calmest water and best beach club conditions. The wet season (October-April) is quieter but operational.
Nusa Lembongan is a 8km² island separated from Bali by the Badung Strait. The fast boat crossing from Sanur Beach takes 30-40 minutes and costs IDR 150,000-300,000 (£7-14) depending on the operator; boats run from 8am to 5pm daily. There are no cars on the island: transport is by scooter (hire IDR 70,000-100,000 per day) or on foot. The beach club circuit runs along the north-west coast: Dream Beach Club, Sandy Bay Beach Club, and a handful of smaller bars are within a 2km scooter ride of the main harbour at Jungutbatu.
The island's social scene is more relaxed than Kuta or Seminyak on mainland Bali. Dream Beach Club has the most dramatic setting: a clifftop infinity pool above a beach with strong waves and regular sunsets that attract a crowd from 4pm onwards. Sandy Bay Beach Club runs a Wednesday and Saturday DJ night that goes until midnight. The rest of the week, bars close at 10-11pm. The appeal is the combination of beach, surf (Shipwreck and Lacerations are the two main breaks, both reef), and a crowd that has self-selected by choosing a slightly harder-to-reach island over the Bali mainland options.

Day-by-day breakdown
Dream Beach Club is 3km from Jungutbatu harbour: IDR 20,000 by scooter or 30 minutes on foot via the coastal path. The infinity pool is open to non-guests with a minimum spend of IDR 100,000-150,000 on food and drinks. A Bintang beer at the pool bar costs IDR 55,000-70,000. Arrive by 3pm for a lounger; by 4.30pm the best spots are taken. Sunsets here face directly west and are worth the IDR 150,000 scooter hire to access.
The harbour area at Jungutbatu has a 300-metre strip of warungs (local restaurants) and bars along the beachfront. Dinner at a warung costs IDR 40,000-80,000 for a full nasi goreng or mie goreng with a drink. Sandy Bay Beach Club runs DJ nights on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8pm; entry IDR 50,000-100,000 with a drink. Other evenings, the beach bars close by 10-11pm.
