BGC and Makati run back-to-back: rooftop bars, megaclubs on McKinley Road, and a street party scene that treats weeknights as warmly as weekends.
Manila's nightlife is split across two adjoining districts: Makati's Poblacion neighbourhood and Bonifacio Global City (BGC), roughly 4 kilometres apart by taxi. Poblacion is the older, looser scene — low-ceilinged bars on Maling Street and Kalayaan Avenue, karaoke rooms above ground-floor restaurants, and a density of cheap rum that makes it one of Southeast Asia's better-value nights out. BGC is the polished counterpart: Bonifacio High Street and the strip along McKinley Road have rooftop cocktail bars, international DJs, and megaclubs including Palace Pool Club and The Palace Manila, which can hold 5,000 people across multiple floors and an outdoor pool area.
The December to January window is peak season by a significant margin. The Filipino Christmas season starts in September and the energy builds through to New Year's Eve, when BGC's street closure on McKinley Road turns the district into an outdoor party. Outside of peak season, the scene is quieter but never dead: Filipinos treat Thursday nights as weekend-adjacent, and both districts have reliable foot traffic from Wednesday onwards. San Miguel beer costs ₱60–₱100 (£1–£1.40) in Poblacion bars; expect ₱200–₱350 (£2.80–£5) in BGC. Transport between the two districts at night: Grab (the regional Uber equivalent) runs reliably and costs ₱120–₱200 (£1.70–£2.80) for the short hop.

Day-by-day breakdown
Start on Maling Street or Kalayaan Avenue in Makati's Poblacion from around 8pm. This is the cheapest stretch of the night: craft beer bars, rum-and-coke joints, and Filipino barbecue skewers from street stalls at ₱20–₱30 each. The bars here are small and social. Polilya and Barcino are consistent. The area thins out after midnight as the crowd migrates to BGC.
Take a Grab to BGC from around midnight. The Palace Manila on 9th Avenue is the district's centrepiece: multiple rooms, pool area, international DJs on weekends. Cover charge runs ₱300–₱500 (£4–£7) on busy nights. Revel at Crossroads and XX XX (Twenty by Twenty) are the alternatives with smaller capacities and a younger local crowd. Rooftop bars on Bonifacio High Street stay open until 2am; the clubs run to 4am or 5am on Fridays and Saturdays.
