What Is Lollapalooza Chile?

Lollapalooza Chile is the Latin American anchor of the Lollapalooza franchise, running since 2011 in Parque Bicentenario in the Vitacura district of Santiago. The festival draws 80,000–90,000 people per day across three days with a lineup that combines international rock, pop, and electronic headliners with Latin and Chilean acts. The 2025 edition featured Tyler the Creator and Olivia Rodrigo as co-headliners; the 2026 lineup announcement typically lands in December or January. The site is compact by international festival standards: all stages are within a 10-minute walk of each other, making it possible to move between headliners mid-set without missing significant time.

March in Santiago is autumn, which means temperatures of 20–27°C during the day and around 14°C at night: arguably the best weather conditions for an outdoor festival in the Southern Hemisphere. The Vitacura district is in Santiago's wealthier east side, 20 minutes by Metro from the Bellavista neighbourhood (the backpacker and nightlife hub in Barrio Recoleta). The Santiago Metro's Line 1 connects central Barrio Lastarria and the city centre to the festival area efficiently: the festival's closest station is Tobalaba on Lines 1 and 4.

Getting There

What to Expect

Day-by-day breakdown

Friday

Festival opens with Latin headliners

The Friday programme at Lollapalooza Chile traditionally carries the strongest Latin American headliner: a reggaeton, cumbia, or Latin pop act with mass appeal in the local market. This is a different proposition from the international rock/pop days. Crowd is predominantly Chilean and the atmosphere is distinctly local. Gates open at noon.

Saturday

International rock and electronic headliners

Saturday carries the most high-profile international rock or alternative booking. The main stage crowd peaks at around 80,000 by 9pm. The electronic stage (Perry's) runs DJs through the afternoon and evening on a parallel schedule. Food traders in the Lollapizza area serve Chilean staples (completo hot dogs, empanadas) alongside international options.

Sunday

Closing day with pop headliner

Sunday typically headlines with an international pop or hip-hop act. The crowd is youngest and most diverse on Sunday. Closing sets run until 11pm. After the festival, the bars along Avenida Pío Nono in Bellavista and the clubs on Avenida del Cerro in Barrio Italia are the natural continuation.

Practical Tips

Book accommodation in Bellavista or Lastarria
Bellavista (Barrio Recoleta) is Santiago's main hostel district: dorm beds average CLP 15,000–25,000 (£13–22) per night. The Metro Line 1 from Baquedano station connects Bellavista to the Tobalaba station near Parque Bicentenario in under 20 minutes. Lastarria is slightly pricier but more central and equally well connected.
Wear sunscreen: the March UV index in Santiago is high
Santiago sits at 33°S latitude and the UV index in March reaches 8–10 (very high to extreme). Despite autumn temperatures, UV exposure during afternoon outdoor stages is significant. Apply SPF 50 before entering the festival and reapply at midday. Shade structures exist near the main stage but are not universal across the site.
Chilean peso: withdraw from BancoEstado ATMs
BancoEstado has the lowest international card fees for ATM withdrawals in Chile. Avoid Banco de Chile and Scotiabank for this purpose: their foreign card fees are higher. Withdraw CLP 50,000–100,000 per festival day as a guide. Card payment is accepted at most festival food and drink points.
Combine with weekend Mercado Central for lunch
Santiago's Mercado Central on the north side of the city centre is one of South America's great seafood markets. Lunch (centolla king crab, congrio fish, or a standard three-course set menu) costs CLP 12,000–20,000 (£10–17) at the interior restaurant tables. Worth arriving by noon on a festival day before heading to the site.
Perry's stage (electronic) is the alternative programme
The Perry's stage at Lollapalooza Chile runs electronic DJs throughout both weekend days. Acts tend to be house and techno bookings that complement rather than replicate the main stage programme. The Perry's area has smaller crowds than the main stage and is consistently cited by regular attendees as the most reliably enjoyable part of the site.
Flights into Santiago: book 6–8 weeks ahead for March
Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) is a major South American transit point. LATAM, Avianca, and American Airlines fly from North America; Iberia, Air France, and others from Europe. March is peak summer holiday season in Europe (Spring Break) overlapping with southern autumn: transatlantic fares rise in February. Book by January for the best prices.
