Koh Samui serves as the launch pad for Koh Phangan's monthly Full Moon Party, but the island has its own beach club scene, monthly events, and a water park party at Ark Bar that draws 2,000 people per weekend.
Koh Samui's party scene operates on a different register to Koh Phangan: less intense, more spread across the island, and sustained year-round rather than spiking once a month. The beach road along Chaweng Beach, specifically the section of Beach Road between Soi Reggae and Soi Coliseum, is the nightlife spine. Ark Bar on the beach itself runs a water park party on Saturday afternoons from 3pm to 10pm, with a DJ stage, slides into the pool, and a crowd of 1,500–2,000 people. The weekly event is the closest thing Samui has to a signature party and has run consistently for over a decade.
The Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan is the primary reason many people visit Koh Samui: the island is the ferry hub for crossing to Koh Phangan. Lomprayah and Seatran ferries run from Bangrak and Nathon piers respectively, taking 30–45 minutes to Koh Phangan's Thong Sala. On Full Moon nights, additional late services run both ways. Samui's own calendar includes a regular programme of pool parties at beach hotels, DJ nights at Nikki Beach Club in Lipa Noi, and the December–January high season which brings New Year's Eve events across Chaweng that rival anything on the Gulf of Thailand. Hostel accommodation on Samui is concentrated in Chaweng; dorm beds run THB 350–600 per night.

Day-by-day breakdown
Ark Bar's Saturday event begins at 3pm on Chaweng Beach. The water park involves two inflatable slides running into a pool adjacent to the beach; entry is free with a minimum drinks spend (around THB 200). DJs run continuously from 3pm to 10pm with the crowd peaking from 5pm to 8pm. The beach itself is a 2-minute walk from the road where songthaews and taxis run continuously. The northern end of Chaweng beach, past the Ark Bar section, is quieter and free.
The bars along the beach road open from 9pm and reach capacity from midnight. Green Mango Club and Reggae Club are the two largest venues, both running commercial dance and R&B from midnight to 4am. For a lower-key night, the Fisherman's Village in Bophut (12km from Chaweng) has a Friday night walking street market with food stalls and live music from 5pm, which draws a mixed crowd of expats, Thai locals, and tourists in a considerably less intense atmosphere.
