What Is Jaipur Music Stage?

Jaipur Music Stage uses the Ram Niwas Garden at the Albert Hall Museum as its primary venue: the Indo-Saracenic museum building, constructed in 1887, provides an illuminated backdrop to the outdoor stage in the garden in front of it. The festival has run in various forms for several years and positions itself as a crossover event combining the international music ecosystem with India's classical and contemporary music scene. Acts from across India appear alongside international artists whose work intersects with world music, electronica, and jazz. The festival is part of Jaipur's broader cultural events calendar, which also includes the Jaipur Literature Festival (held in January at Diggi Palace) as the city's best-known international event.

Jaipur itself is one of the most visited cities in Rajasthan and sits at the western end of the Golden Triangle tourist route from Delhi and Agra. The city has a well-developed backpacker hostel infrastructure in the old city area around the Hawa Mahal and along MI Road, with dorm beds running INR 300–600 per night. The Amber Fort, 11km from the city centre, and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) on Badi Chaupar are the two primary architectural sites. Jaipur's street food, particularly the laal maas (mutton curry) at Rawat Mishtan Bhandar on Station Road and the pyaaz kachori (onion-filled pastry) from street vendors, is among the most distinctive in Rajasthan.

Getting There

What to Expect

Day-by-day breakdown

Afternoon

Albert Hall and old city exploration

The Albert Hall Museum opens at 10am and closes at 5pm (extended to 8pm for evening viewing of the illuminated exterior). Entry costs INR 40 for Indian nationals and INR 150 for foreigners. The gardens around the museum are public and free. The old city bazaars on Johari Bazaar (jewellery and textiles) and Tripolia Bazaar (bangles and lacquered furniture) are a 15-minute auto-rickshaw ride from the museum. Auto-rickshaws in Jaipur should be negotiated in advance; app-based Rapido and Ola are cheaper and metered.

Evening

Concert in the Albert Hall gardens

The evening concert begins at 7pm when the Albert Hall exterior is fully illuminated. The programme typically runs three to four acts with an interval. Indian classical sets, which require patience but reward it for newcomers with attentive listening, typically open the evening programme before the headliner. The gardens are open-air; Jaipur in November and December has clear cool evenings (15–20°C) that are ideal for outdoor concerts. Rooftop restaurants on Hawa Mahal Road run dinner service until 10:30pm for the post-concert crowd.
