Five days of street parties and club nights across Copenhagen's neighbourhoods in late May: free outdoor stages that move across the city district by district, culminating in a 100,000-person closing party in Fælledparken.
Distortion is Copenhagen's largest annual party and runs for five days in late May or early June. The format is unique: rather than concentrating in a single venue, the festival moves neighbourhood by neighbourhood across the city, with each day dedicated to a different district. Day one is typically in Nørrebro, day two in Vesterbro, day three in the inner city, and the final two days build toward the closing party in Fælledparken. Each neighbourhood day features free outdoor stages in streets and squares, temporary bars, and DJ sets running from midday to midnight. The closing Fælledparken party is ticketed and draws around 100,000 people.
The street party format means the crowds are dense and the atmosphere is genuinely of the neighbourhood rather than a cordoned festival site. Local businesses in each neighbourhood activate for their day, with bars setting up outdoor areas and restaurants opening terraces. The neighbourhood days are entirely free to attend; the Fælledparken closing party requires an advance ticket, typically going on sale in February. Music across the five days covers electronic music, Danish hip-hop, reggae, and international DJ sets, with the electronic music concentration increasing as the festival builds toward the closing weekend. Copenhagen in late May averages 16–18°C; the parties run regardless of rain, and the Danes are pragmatic about it.

Day-by-day breakdown
Each neighbourhood day begins at noon. The main stage for the day is published on the Distortion website the week before; it moves around within the neighbourhood and is trackable on a live map updated hourly. Vesterbro and Nørrebro days draw the largest crowds. The best approach is to position near a bar with outdoor space and let the street party come to you rather than trying to navigate through the crowd to a specific stage. Beers from temporary bars run DKK 45–65.
Distortion's official club programme runs every night of the festival at venues across the city, with tickets sold separately. Venues include VEGA, Culture Box, and Rust, all of which book international and Danish electronic DJs for the festival nights. The Fælledparken closing party on the final day runs from noon to midnight; the main stage headliners perform from 7pm to 11pm. After the park closes, the club programme continues at multiple venues until 5am or 6am.
