Cancun's hotel zone runs daily beach parties, pool parties, and club nights from late February to early April: Coco Bongo, Mandala, and 12 kilometres of Caribbean party infrastructure.
Cancun's Spring Break season runs from late February to early April and peaks in mid-March when American college students descend on the hotel zone (Zona Hotelera) in numbers that push accommodation bookings to capacity. The hotel zone is a 12km strip of beachfront hotels, clubs, and bars on a narrow barrier island between the Caribbean Sea and Nichupté Lagoon. The main party venues — Coco Bongo (capacity 4,000+), Mandala Beach Club, and Dady'O — run themed club nights, foam parties, and wet T-shirt contests from 10pm to sunrise. Daytime revolves around the beach clubs and pool parties at hotels along Boulevard Kukulcán.
Cancun's spring break reputation is well-established and the infrastructure exists to service it efficiently. All-inclusive day passes at major hotels give access to pool parties, open bars, and beach access for US$35–$80 per day — significantly cheaper than buying drinks individually at club prices. The Zona Hotelera has its own bus route (R-1) running along Boulevard Kukulcán for MXN 12 per journey. Downtown Cancun (El Centro), 20 minutes by bus from the hotel zone, has accommodation at half the hotel zone price and local food at a tenth of the tourist-area cost.

Day-by-day breakdown
The public beach access points on Boulevard Kukulcán give free access to the Caribbean side. Hotel pool party day passes (US$35–$80) include open bar and food; book directly at the hotel or through their social media. Playa Delfines at the southern end of the hotel zone is the best free public beach: cleaner than the club-fronted sections and less commercialised. Caribbean water temperature in March: 26–28°C.
The lagoon side of the hotel zone has several bars with views over Nichupté Lagoon at sunset. The Señor Frog's at La Isla Shopping Village (Boulevard Kukulcán km 12.5) starts happy hour from 5pm: two-for-one margaritas until 8pm. Pre-gaming at a hotel before the clubs open cuts costs significantly: margarita mixes from the Walmart Supercenter on Av. Cobá in El Centro cost a fraction of club prices.
Coco Bongo on Boulevard Kukulcán runs a show-club hybrid: acrobatic performances, live music impersonators, and DJ sets in a venue that holds thousands. Entry with open bar: approximately MXN 1,200–1,800 (approximately £53–£79). Mandala is a beach club that converts to a full nightclub after dark, with a pool. Dady'O is the oldest and largest traditional club. Most venues run until 5am or sunrise.
Chichen Itza is 195km from Cancun: a 2.5-hour bus from the ADO terminal for approximately MXN 300 return. The pyramid of El Castillo is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Isla Mujeres is 45 minutes by ferry from Puerto Juárez (MXN 250 return): a small island with the best snorkelling near Cancun at Garrafon Natural Reef Park.
