The Valley is Brisbane's nightlife district proper: seven blocks of clubs, bars, and live music venues on Brunswick and Ann Streets that run until 5am at weekends.
Fortitude Valley sits 2km northeast of Brisbane's CBD and functions as the city's unambiguous nightlife district. Brunswick Street Mall is the pedestrianised core, lined with bars and venues from the respectable to the chaotic. The Brunswick Street end has the more mainstream clubs — Family, The Met, and Press Club among them — while the Ann Street corridor and the Chinatown Mall area have more independent venues, live music rooms, and late-night food options. The whole area is serviced by the Fortitude Valley train station and multiple taxi ranks.
Queensland's late-trading venue rules allow licensed premises to stay open until 5am, which means Brisbane has a later-running scene than most Australian cities. The caveat is a stricter ID policy than you might expect: Australian venues follow responsible service of alcohol regulations rigorously, and door staff at major clubs scan IDs routinely. International passports are accepted everywhere. Beers at most venues cost AUD 8–12; cocktails AUD 16–22. Scruffy Murphy's on Brunswick Street is the backpacker anchor, with cheap drinks deals, pool tables, and a relaxed door policy that makes it the natural first stop.

Day-by-day breakdown
Start at Scruffy Murphy's or The Wickham Hotel on Wickham Street, which has a large beer garden and runs until the early hours. From there, work along Brunswick Street. The Zoo on Ann Street is Brisbane's best live music pub, with original bands most Thursday through Saturday nights from 8pm; check the listings before heading in as the quality varies. The Foundry on Constance Street is the better-curated live music option, smaller capacity and more consistent programming. Cover charges at live music venues run AUD 10–25.
Family at 8 McLachlan Street is Brisbane's most established LGBTQ+ and electronic music club, running strong DJ nights Thursday through Sunday from 10pm. The Met at 51 Brunswick Street is the highest-capacity mainstream club in the Valley, playing chart and commercial dance, and is where large groups tend to end up. Press Club at 339 Brunswick Street runs a more intimate dancefloor with house and techno. Most clubs do not fill until midnight; peak is 1am–3am. Food after hours: Fortitude Valley has several 24-hour convenience stores and a McDonald's on Brunswick Street.
