What Is Bogotá Estéreo Picnic?

Estéreo Picnic has grown since 2010 into Colombia's most internationally recognised music festival, notable for booking acts that rarely include South America in their touring itineraries. The venue is Parque Simón Bolívar, a large public park in western Bogotá, accessible by TransMilenio bus on the Calle 26 and Calle 80 routes. The festival runs three days in late March, which falls in Bogotá's drier season: temperatures at 2,600 metres above sea level are cool by day (15–18°C) and cold at night (8–12°C), which surprises visitors expecting a tropical climate. Layers are essential.

The lineup covers alternative rock, electronic music, hip-hop, and Latin acts across three main stages and two smaller stages. Past headliners have included The Strokes, Nine Inch Nails, and Billie Eilish. The 2026 edition is confirmed for 20–22 March and tickets go on sale in November 2025 through the festival's own platform. Tickets sell out in the first wave for the major names, often within hours. The festival is fully cashless: a prepaid wristband loaded at entry kiosks covers food and drink. Beer runs COP 10,000–15,000 per can; food from COP 20,000. The La Candelaria historic district and the Zona Rosa restaurant area are both 20–30 minutes by taxi from the festival site and are the relevant nightlife and dining areas for the evenings.

Getting There

What to Expect

Day-by-day breakdown

Afternoon

Smaller stages and altitude acclimatisation

If you are arriving in Bogotá from sea level, give yourself at least 24 hours before the festival to adjust to the altitude. Physical exertion at 2,600m before acclimatisation causes dizziness and headaches. The smaller stages at Estéreo Picnic have some of the festival's most interesting acts; the afternoon programme is less crowded and easier to navigate than the evening. Food trucks serve arepas con hogao, bandeja paisa components, and fresh-squeezed juices from Colombia's Pacific coast fruits.

Night

Headliners and cold-weather preparation

Temperature drops sharply after sunset: from around 18°C in the afternoon to 10°C by 10pm. A proper jacket, not just a light layer, is necessary for the headliner slot. The main stage headliner performs from around 9:30pm and runs 90 minutes to two hours. The festival ends at midnight. Taxis from the park gates run quickly after the headliner ends; use the Uber or inDriver apps, which are cheaper and more reliable than street taxis.
