Greece's biggest rock and electronic festival runs across two days at Terra Vibe Park in Malakasa, 40 kilometres north of Athens, with 20,000 people per day and a consistent record of major international headliners.
Rockwave Festival has operated since 1996 and is Greece's longest-running and most recognised international rock festival. The venue is Terra Vibe Park in Malakasa, a large outdoor site on the Athens-Lamia highway, accessible by intercity train from Larissa Station in central Athens in approximately 40 minutes. The site has two main stages and can hold up to 40,000 people per day across both days, though typical attendance runs 15,000–20,000 per day. The lineup draws from rock, metal, alternative, and electronic genres; past headliners include Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Garbage, Pixies, and Placebo. Greek bands support on the second stage throughout both days.
The site at Malakasa is exposed and dry in June and July: temperatures regularly reach 35°C in the afternoon. Shade is limited, and the festival provides designated cool-down zones with misting fans, which fill up quickly from around 3pm. Water is sold at all bars (insist on it being cold; room-temperature water is often offered first). Beer runs €5–€6 per can. There is no camping at Terra Vibe; visitors return to Athens after each day. The festival shuttle bus from outside Larissa Station runs specifically for Rockwave and is the most practical option; normal intercity trains also stop at Malakasa but on a reduced service after 10pm. Check return train times before the headliner finishes.

Day-by-day breakdown
Doors open at 4pm. The afternoon programme on the second stage is worth arriving for: Greek acts that rarely play outside the country open the bill, and the site is considerably less crowded before 6pm. Pack sunscreen and drink water at every bar stop. The food vendors sell gyros, souvlaki, and spanakopita alongside standard festival burgers; the Greek options are better and cheaper.
The main stage headliner goes on between 9pm and 10pm. Temperature drops significantly after sunset; a light layer is useful after 10pm. The last shuttle bus to Athens typically departs 30 minutes after the headliner ends; check the departure time posted at the shuttle bus area near the main gate on arrival. Missing the last shuttle means waiting for the first morning intercity train from Malakasa, which runs around 6am.
