Che Holbox Hostel & Bar

Holbox is a car-free island in the Yucatan, and Che Holbox is one of the main hostel options on it. Karaoke, beer pong, and themed parties run most evenings. At €8 a night and rated 8.7, it's reasonable value for a place that's harder to reach than most Mexican beach towns. The island's nightlife is low-key by design: no mega-clubs, just beachfront palapa bars like Hot Corner and El Barco where nights finish by 2am. Calle Tiburón and Calle Igualdad are the streets to know. If you're after Cancun-scale nightlife, Holbox is the wrong island; if the low-key option is the point, this hostel delivers on it.

Tribu Hostel

Holbox Island isn’t your typical Mexican party destination. Tribu Hostel is in Town Centre, which puts it at the start of that circuit. Tribu Hostel Bar on Calle Tiburón Ballena, near the beach. Expect live music most nights: local bands, DJs, or open mic sessions. Hot Corner on Playa Holbox, west end is the fallback option if the first place is packed. At €17 a night and rated 9.1. At 9.1, it's near the top of Holbox Island's hostel field without being the standout leader.

Barco Verde Hostel

Town Centre

The heart of Holbox, where most hostels, bars, and restaurants are clustered. Streets are sandy and lined with colourful murals. The ferry dock is here, so it’s the first place you’ll see. Nightlife is concentrated around Calle Tiburón and Calle Igualdad.

Playa Holbox (West End)

A quieter stretch of beach with palapa bars and hammocks. The sand is powdery white, and the water is shallow for miles. Most beach clubs here close by 8 PM, but Hot Corner stays open late. Best for sunset views and daytime chilling.

Punta Coco

The eastern tip of the island, accessible by bike or a 30-minute walk from town. Almost no bars or shops, just empty beaches and a handful of luxury eco-resorts. Great for escaping the crowd and spotting flamingos in the lagoon.

A beachfront palapa bar with sand underfoot and reggae on the speakers. The crowd is relaxed, mostly 25–35, and the cocktails (£5–£6) are strong. Happy hour runs from 5–7 PM, and it’s the best spot for sunset. Gets busy with day-trippers from Cancún around 4 PM.

A tiny bar with a pirate-ship theme and some of the cheapest beers on the island (£1.50 during happy hour). The owner, a local fisherman, often joins in with live music. No frills, just plastic chairs and good vibes. Closes by 1 AM.

The closest thing Holbox has to a club. Plays Latin, reggaeton, and electronic music until 2 AM. Entry is free, but drinks are £5–£7. The dance floor is tiny, so it gets packed fast. Best after midnight when the beach bars empty out.

A hidden speakeasy-style bar with no sign: look for the unmarked door on Calle Tiburón. Specialises in mezcal cocktails (£6–£8) and has a chilled-out lounge vibe. Gets busy with expats and locals after 10 PM. No music, just conversation.

The only organised pub crawl on Holbox, running every Thursday. Starts at Tribu Hostel at 9 PM, then hits Hot Corner, El Barco, and Moskito Bar. Includes a free shot at each stop and a welcome drink. £12 per person, cash only.
